Set Up Your Shopify Wholesale Store Without Shopify Plus

Date

Want to offer wholesale pricing on your Shopify store but don’t want to deal with Shopify Plus or a separate store? You can actually do it all on your existing store! This guide will walk you through setting up a wholesale program that lets you sell to both retail and wholesale customers.

We’ll be using an app called Process Wholesale. It’s pretty straightforward to set up, takes just a few minutes, and importantly, it doesn’t mess with your theme code. This means no slowdowns and no leftover code if you decide to remove it later.

With this setup, you’ll get a customizable wholesale signup form, a private wholesale section with an order form, and you can even have wholesale prices show up directly on your regular product pages. The best part? These wholesale sections and prices are only visible to logged-in wholesale customers.

Key Takeaways

  • Unified Store: Manage both retail and wholesale customers from a single Shopify store.
  • No Shopify Plus Needed: Access wholesale features without upgrading to a more expensive plan.
  • Customizable Signup: Create a branded application form for wholesale customers.
  • Private Sections: Offer a dedicated wholesale area with bulk ordering capabilities.
  • Dynamic Pricing: Display wholesale prices directly on product pages, visible only to approved customers.
  • Theme Friendly: The app integrates without altering your theme’s code, preventing performance issues.

Setting Up The Wholesale Signup Form

First things first, we need to create a dedicated page for your wholesale application. This involves using your theme customizer.

  1. Go to your Shopify admin and navigate to Online Store > Themes .
  2. Find your current theme and click Customize .
  3. In the theme customizer, go to Pages on the left-hand side.
  4. Click Create a template and name it something like "Wholesale Sign Up". Make sure it’s based on a default page template.
  5. Under the Apps section in the template editor, click Add block and select the Wholesale Sign Up Form .
  6. You can customize the text on the form, like changing the heading to "Apply for a Wholesale Account".
  7. Configure the signup fields: choose which ones you want to be required, optional, or hidden (like business name, address, etc.).
  8. You can also adjust the text shown to customers who are already logged in or are pending approval.
  9. To make it look cleaner, you can hide the page title.
  10. Click Save .

Now, create a new page:

  1. Go to Online Store > Pages and click Add page .
  2. Title it "Wholesale Application" or similar.
  3. Under Theme template , select the "Wholesale Sign Up" template you just created.
  4. Click Save .

Finally, add this page to your navigation menu so customers can easily find it. You can add it to your main menu or footer menu.

Displaying Wholesale Prices On Product Pages

To show wholesale prices directly on your product pages, you’ll add another block to your theme.

  1. In the theme customizer, go to Products > Default product .
  2. Click Add block and select the Product Wholesale block.
  3. Drag this block to position it where you want it to appear, typically right below the regular price.
  4. Click Save .

Important Note: This block works best with a page-style cart. Go to Theme settings > Cart and ensure your Cart type is set to Page . It won’t work with cart drawers or pop-ups.

Creating A Private Wholesale Section

This section will house your wholesale products in a table format, allowing for bulk ordering.

  1. In the theme customizer, go back to Pages and click Create a template .
  2. Name this template something like "Wholesale Table".
  3. Click Add block and select the Quick Buy block. This will create the wholesale table.
  4. You can hide the page title here as well.
  5. Customize the table: You can choose to display only products from a specific wholesale collection if you create one.
  6. Decide whether to show the original price alongside the wholesale price.
  7. You can also adjust the table’s colors to match your brand.
  8. Crucially, configure what non-wholesale customers see: You can either show them the signup form or a lock screen with a message directing them to apply.
  9. Click Save .

Create a new page for this section:

  1. Go to Online Store > Pages and click Add page .
  2. Title it "Wholesale Order" or similar.
  3. Under Theme template , select the "Wholesale Table" template you just created.
  4. Click Save .

Add this "Wholesale Order" page to your navigation menu as well.

Managing Wholesale Customers And Discounts

Now, let’s manage who gets wholesale access and what discounts they receive.

  1. Open the Process Wholesale app from your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to the Customers section. You’ll see two lists: Pending B2B Customers and Active B2B Customers .
  3. When a customer fills out the signup form, their application will appear under Pending B2B Customers . You can review their information.
  4. To approve them, click on their entry and select Accept . They will then move to Active B2B Customers .
  5. To assign discounts, click on an active customer, go to Actions , and select Assign discount tags .

Creating Discounts

Within the app, navigate to the Discounts section to create your wholesale pricing rules.

  • Flat Discounts: These are straightforward percentage or fixed amount discounts (e.g., 25% off, $10 off). You can choose to apply them to all products or specific collections.
  • Tier Discounts: These allow you to set up discounts based on order quantity or total cart value. For example, a customer gets 50% off if they order 5 or more of a specific product, or a different discount if they order 20+.

Once you create a discount, you can assign it to specific customers by applying a discount tag.

Auto-Assigning Discounts

For efficiency, you can set up automatic discounts:

  1. Go to the app’s Settings .
  2. Under Auto assign tags to customers , select the discount tag you want to apply automatically.
  3. Now, every time you approve a new wholesale customer, they will automatically receive the selected discount.

By following these steps, you can successfully implement a robust wholesale program on your Shopify store without needing Shopify Plus, offering a tailored experience for your wholesale clients.
